Collection: aden + anais

aden + anais was founded in 2006 by an Australian mum living in New York, built on the idea that muslin, lightweight, breathable and endlessly versatile, was the one thing every new parent needed more of. That instinct still runs through everything they make.

The brand set out to bring the Australian muslin tradition to the rest of the world, and it worked. Their muslin swaddles, baby blankets, sleeping bags and muslins have become a fixture in nurseries globally, trusted for their softness, breathability and the kind of durability that stands up to daily use and endless washing.

Two decades on, aden + anais remains one of the most trusted names in baby essentials, known for beautifully made newborn essentials that hold up to the reality of life with a new baby.

What is muslin and why does it matter for babies?

Muslin is a loosely woven cotton fabric with a natural breathability that synthetic alternatives can't replicate. It regulates temperature rather than trapping heat, which matters most for newborns who can't yet do it themselves. It also softens with every wash, so the blanket you use six months later feels noticeably better than the one you opened on day one.

What is the Silky Soft range?

The Silky Soft range is made from 100% bamboo viscose rather than cotton muslin. It's naturally stretchy, moisture-wicking and breathable, with a smooth, silky feel from first use. The stretch makes swaddling easier and more secure, and the moisture-wicking properties help regulate temperature in the same way the classic muslin does, just with a distinctly different hand feel. If you're unsure which to choose, it comes down to personal preference, both fabrics are built to the same quality standard.

What can I use an aden + anais muslin for?

Swaddle, pram cover, nursing cover, burp cloth, play mat, comforter. The generous sizing means they stay useful well past the newborn stage.

How do the sleeping bags differ from their muslins?

The same breathable fabric philosophy, but purpose-built for safe sleep. Sleeping bags give babies the warmth of a blanket without the risks, they can't slip over a baby's head, tangle around the body, or get kicked off during the night, keeping the cot bare as recommended to reduce the risk of SIDS.  They're the natural next step for babies who've outgrown swaddling or never took to being wrapped. aden + anais sleeping bags are made from the same breathable fabric as the muslins, available across multiple tog ratings and sizes.

Are aden + anais products safe for newborns?

Yes. Fabrics are free from harmful substances. The breathability of the muslin is a practical safety feature as much as a comfort one, helping to reduce the risk of overheating during sleep.

How do their products hold up to regular washing?

That's where they earn their reputation. The muslin softens and improves with washing rather than pilling or losing shape, and the prints stay vivid despite the kind of daily use a new baby demands.

What are aden + anais's sustainability credentials?

The Organic Line is made from GOTS-certified organic cotton, with eco-friendly dyes throughout, and packaged in 100% recyclable boxes compliant with the EU Green Dot initiative. It's manufactured by Asia Cotton in Karur, India, where over 70% of positions are held by women. The products are also built to be passed between children rather than replaced, which is probably the most sustainable credential of all.
