Description
All parents, whether their attitude to parenting is relaxed or over cautious will at some point worry about Cot Death (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome SIDS). That first night when your baby ‘sleeps through’ all parents have that slight dread when walking into the nursery that their baby has not suffered from the syndrome.
Continual research into the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome highlighted possible links with fire retardant chemicals in foam baby mattresses, CO2 pooling and overheating. The PurFlo mattress reduces all of thess possibilities.
The PurFlo mattress replaces the conventional foam mattress with a fully breathable, fully washable, foam-free mattress. An essential product to help parent’s minds be at peace while their baby sleeps. The only fully washable cot mattress, the PurFlo mattress provides a genuine dust-mite free environment for babies, helping to prevent the harmful build-up of allergens which are known to aggravate childhood allergies such as Asthma and Eczema.
Guidelines
Will the baby be too cold?
No, this is not a problem. When the mattress is used in conjunction with a Sleeping Bag, the clinical studies show that the PurFlo mattress makes a sleeping bag more thermally efficient. Thus the baby is warmer in a cool room and cooler in a warm room.
Why do you only recommend the use of a sleeping bag with this mattress - at least for the first year?
All of the clinical trials were done using a sleeping bag. The nature of the mattress surface wraps the sleeping bag closer round the baby keeping him warmer than on a normal mattress with traditional bedding.
What is the PurFlo cot mattress made from?
The PurFlo cot mattress consists of a fully-permeable, fully washable foam-free mattress fitted over a hollow frame. It is made from polyester, which because it is naturally fire retardant, means it doesn't require any sort of chemical treatment.
Would you recommend using bedding?
The current advice from the Foundation for the Study of Infant Death Syndrome (FSIDS) is to avoid using loose bedding with young babies. However, if you would prefer to use a sheet, PurFlo offer a 100% organic washable cotton sheet to fit over the mattress. This can be used in conjunction with the PurFlo SleepSac and can be used from birth. After the first 12 months of use from birth, the risks of SIDS reduces dramatically and if desired, conventional bedding may be used with the PurFlo mattress – but we would still recommend a sleeping bag which eliminates any risk from loose bedding.
How does it differ from other anti-allergen products on the market?
While there are other anti-allergen mattresses claiming to be allergen-free on the market, the PurFlo mattress is the only one you can wash completely. This removes dust mites and their excreta, which are known to aggravate childhood conditions such as asthma and eczema.
Is the PurFlo cot mattress easy to assemble?
The PurFlo cot mattress has been designed with busy parents in mind. It takes only a matter of minutes to assemble.
What happens if something goes wrong with the mattress?
A two-year manufacturer's warranty also comes as standard with your PurFlo mattress. If any problems do arise simply contact our Customer Care team and they will be more than happy to organise for a replacement to be sent to you.
Is the mattress good value for money?
Normally it is recommended that a new mattress is bought for every child. With the PurFlo System, as it is 100% washable, this is not necessary, and so can be used for other children after washing, reducing the lifetime cost of the product.
Does the mattress offer the correct support?
The mattress does not sag; it conforms better to baby's shape than a conventional mattress, giving support exactly where it is needed for a growing baby.
Is the mattress strong enough?
We recommend it up to 30 kg which is around the average weight of an eight year old.
At what temperature should I keep the nursery?
It is generally recommended that the nursery should be kept between 18 and 21 degrees.
Do movement/breathing monitors work with this mattress?
In-house tests show these to be just as effective with a PurFlo mattress, but it is advisable to check with the supplier of the monitor.
Will the surface be uncomfortable for baby?
No. The SleepSurface conforms to, and supports, the contours of the infant's body. Babies sleep better on this surface.
Will the mattress fit all cots? The mattress is available to fit standard cot size 120 x 60cm and standard cot bed size 140 x 70cm.
How does it help regulate my baby's temperature?
The PurFlo cot mattress has been clinically proven in trials by Peter Fleming, Professor of Infant Health and Developmental Physiology at Bristol University to help your baby regulate its temperature more effectively than conventional mattresses when slept in a sleeping bag. Its hollow surface allows the air to pass freely around the baby at all times, which is ideal for newborns, where it is particularly important that they don't get too hot or cold.
How do I wash the mattress? Just slip off the outer cover of the PurFlo cot mattress and put it into the washing machine. Washing at up to 60c guarantees that all dust mites are removed - making it the most hygenic baby mattress on the market
