Description
Freestyle is the first hands-free pump from Medela. Its small size, powerful performance and hands-free pumping accessories put it in a class of its own. Freestyle is designed for the pumping mum who wants the pumping performance of a double, daily-use pump and the flexibility to be mobile and hands-free while pumping.
Freestyle includes: pump, pumping kit with SoftFit™ breastshields, 4 collection containers with lids, rechargeable battery, carry bag with removable cooler, cooling element, power cord, hands-free kit with two size straps and bra adapters, waist belt with extension piece, instructions and the Breastfeeding Information Guide.
The Freestyle pumping kit (breastshield body, back cap, yellow membrane, and tubing) is designed for use with the Freestyle breastpump only. The hands-free attachment kit and waist belt are also for use only with the Freestyle pump.
Freestyle is a double-electric, personal-use breastpump that is designed for daily use.
What sets Freestyle apart, is its small size, long lasting rechargeable battery and optional hands-free accessories. Freestyle is the perfect choice for an active mom who wants her hands free while pumping to do other things and for the mum who pumps in variety of locations that don’t always have convenient power sources.
Don’t be fooled by Freestyle’s small size. Freestyle is designed for daily use by mums with established milk supplies. It’s the perfect pump for mums who are pumping several times a day, whether at home or work.
Freestyle contains Medela’s 2 Phase Expression® hospital technology that works more like your baby for more milk in less time. It also features the unique one touch let-down button.
Freestyle is a single-user product designed for use by one mom. Use by more than one person may present a health risk and performance questions and voids the warranty.
The Medela Freestyle is warranted by Medela, Inc. to the original purchaser to be free from defects in material and workmanship for the period of 1 year from the date of purchase. See the product package for more details.
The hands-free kit is an optional accessory that allows mum complete hands-free freedom while pumping. The easy to assemble kit attaches to most nursing bras for a secure and comfortable hold.
The hands-free kit includes two sizes of straps that accommodate the majority of mums. The kit also includes adapters so that it can work with top flap nursing bras.
The hands-free kit was designed as an optional accessory. Mum can choose when hands-free pumping is right for her. The hands-free kit and waist belt can be used together, on their own or not at all.
Every mum is different, with unique needs and pumping preferences. Most mums take advantage of hands-free pumping by reading, checking e-mail, talking on the phone and taking care of their children. While Freestyle is designed for mobility, mums should move with care, especially when bending over, to get the most out of their mobile experience.
The Freestyle hands-free kit was designed to fit the majority of mums up to approximately 40F bra sizes. The hands-free kits include two hands-free strap sizes and adjustable top straps, so mum can customize her fit. The waist belt is designed to securely hold the Freestyle pump, giving mum the ability to move around. It is a great option for a mum who wants a complete hands-free experience without having to hold the pump. The waist belt is easy to put on and includes an extender piece.
Guidelines
Inserting the battery
Open the battery compartment by sliding the back panel of the pump down and removing. When inserting the battery, make sure the “This side down” message on the battery is oriented down, toward the inside bottom of the battery compartment.
The pull tab should be facing up, toward you, allowing for convenient removal should the battery need to be replaced. The pump will not operate off of battery if the battery is inserted improperly. When oriented properly the battery will easily slide into the battery compartment.
Prior to first use, the battery needs to be inserted into the pump and should be charged for 24 hours. If necessary the pump can be used during this period with the power cord only.
The pump will display the “bAtt” message while the pump is in the initial charging mode. For best results, allow the pump to initially charge uninterrupted for 24 hours. After the 24-hour initial charge, subsequent charges will take about four hours.
You should not need to remove the battery unless replacing. The pump will charge only when it’s plugged in and NOT in use. A typical charge will take four hours. A fully charged battery will provide about three hours of pumping time.
When turned on, the battery indicator on the display will show how much battery power is left. If the battery symbol starts to flash showing just one bar, there is only enough power left for approximately one 20-minute pumping session. If the battery charging symbol will not stop flashing it is likely the battery has been removed from the pump.
Re-charge the pump for a full 24 hours and this will stop the battery symbol from continuing to flash. If your battery will not charge or provides inadequate power, contact Medela Customer Service for more information.
Digital Display/Pump Control
The memory button was created for mums who have a preferred pump setting. Guided by mum input, we created a tool that easily allows a mum to record a simple pumping pattern – one stimulation setting (for example L5) and length (for example 1 minute), and one expression setting (for example L6).
At anytime a mum can adjust her pump and exit from her memory program. The memory setting can also be reset as often as a mum needs. The let-down button allows a mum to change between the stimulation mode and the expression mode at the press of a button. The pump is pre-set to automatically change to the expression mode after two minutes.
At any time a mum can transition between pumping modes simply by pressing the let-down button. The timer can be reset at anytime simply by pressing down and holding the let-down button for 3 seconds. The timer can be reset at anytime simply by pressing down and holding the let-down button for 3 seconds.
Assembly and Cleaning
Prior to first use, disassemble and sanitize all parts that come into contact with the breast and the breastmilk: SoftFit breastshields, breastshield bodies, back caps, yellow membranes, bottles and lids. Sanitize in boiling water for 10 minutes. After each use, disassemble and wash all parts noted above in warm soapy water.
Rinse in clear water, air dry on clean towel and cover parts when not in use.
Cleaning Tips: Make sure all parts are completely dry before reassembling. Consider using QuickClean™ Wipes or QuickClean™ Micro-Steam bags for convenient cleaning.
The hands-free accessories can be cleaned by simply wiping them down with a damp cloth. The tubing does not need to be boiled.
Freestyle is designed for mobility and as a result was designed with unique breastshield connectors, membranes and tubing solutions.
These Freestyle parts are NOT for use with any other Medela product.
Most Medela collection and feeding solutions work with the Freestyle pump. These include the 5 oz (150ml) bottles and the 80ml containers. Medela’s Pump & Save™ bags are not recommended for use with Freestyle.
