FAQ GREMBO BAGS™

Q: Are Grembo Bags safe?

A: Yes. If the Grembo Bag fits properly and is the right thermal weight, it is one of the safest ways to put your baby to sleep. In addition, the natural fibers of Grembo Bags ensure that the sleep space is as pure as the baby it holds.

Q: At what age can I start using Grembo Bags™?

A: You can use Grembo Bags with newborns as long as you use the appropriate size and thermal weight. The important thing is that your baby's head be larger than the neck opening so that his or her face does not slip into the bag.

Q: Where do I use a Grembo Bag™?

A: For young babies who do not crawl or walk, it is safe to use the Grembo Bag™ as a garment as there is no danger that the baby will trip and fall.

As soon as a baby begins to by mobile and “pull-up” it is safest to use Grembo Bags in the crib with the rails up.

Q: How does the reverse placed zipper work?

A: When open, the Grembo Bag™ is put on much like a little vest. Instead of zipping up, you will latch the zipper at the top and zip it down. To latch the zipper, you fold back the zipper protector and proceed as if you where zipping a jacket. The reverse-placed zipper keeps the metal components away from baby's face, and makes it hard to baby to get out of the Grembo Bag™.

Q: Why should I choose organic cotton?

A: Cotton is comprised half the worlds textile sales, but its conventional production is not as benign as you might expect. It is estimated that conventional cotton consumes approximately 25% of the insecticides and 10% of the pesticides used in the world. Organic cotton production used untreated, non-GMO seeds, builds healthy soil through crop rotation, mechanically removes weeds rather than chemically poisoning them, maintains a balance between pests and their natural predators through healthy soil, and relies on the seasonal freeze or water management to harvest the cotton. By farming with a combination of savvy and sweat, organic cotton growers help preserve our air, our water, our soil and the bountiful biodiversity of our planet. Q: How do I wash Grembo™ Products?

A: To maintain the natural quality of the fabric, we recommend washing it with baking soda or non-chlorine bleach earth friendlier laundry products. Please consider drying with low heat or line drying.

Q: What kinds of dyes are used on your colored products?

A: No Dyes are used. At this time all our colored cotton is Color Grown.

Q: What is Color Grown cotton?

A: Just as there are red roses and yellow daffodils, cotton has colors! Colored cotton has been around from the beginning with documented use in both the sub-Himalayan regions of Asia and in ancient Indian communities in Meso America , Peru and Guatemala .The colors of the cotton range from white to green, as well as many colors of tan and brown, and even charcoal grey. While the color-grown cottons have always been around, they remained a novelty, available only in very small quantities, and used in limited hand spinning and weaving application. Commercial production and processing remain a challenge predominately due to the advances in technology and speed of the spinning and weaving machinery, the availability of inexpensive dyestuffs and the development of higher yielding cotton. With the limitations of lower yields and shorter, weaker fibers, color-grown cotton varieties have had to go through an extensive breeding program to improve their yield, fiber quality, color intensity and color palette. Fabrics made from color-grown cotton represent the best in human efforts to work in concert with nature to produce beautifully colored fabrics without the use of dyes. However, color-grown fabrics may contain certain natural variations in color, light fastness and shrinkage. (Response courtesy of www.organiccottonplus.com)

Q: What does low-impact fiber-reactive mean?

A: Low-Impact fiber-reactive is a process that uses far less water than conventional dying. This is more environmentally sound because all dye material is reclaimed and not released as effluent. No heavy metal Mordants, Azo, Sulfa or Vat Dyes are used. (response courtesy of www.organiccottonplus.com)

Q: Explain "sanforizing" and "finishing".

A: Sanforizing is a process where by the fabric is run through a sanforizer; a machine that has drums filled with hot steam. This process is done to control the shrinkage of the fabric.

Cornstarch is the only sizing (weaving aid) used on our organic fabrics. After weaving, fabric must be finished to give the desired feel and appearance. Cornstarch is water-soluble and, on our natural (undyed) fabrics, washing with water is the only finishing needed. Fabric that will be dyed is bleached with hydrogen peroxide, and then washed with water. In some cases the fabric will be mercerized to promote uniform dyeing and colorfastness. This process involves washing the fabric in a very dilute solution of caustic soda. The fabric is rinsed to remove all traces of this compound. (response courtesy of www.organiccottonplus.com).
