Choosing Cribs & Cots. Source: StokkeBaby cribs, cots, and beds, come in all shapes, manners, and forms, and provide both you and your child with many options, selection, and choice. When evaluating and deciding upon the ideal baby crib for your child:
Placing your baby crib or infant bed in the nurseryPlacing your baby crib or infant bed in a safe place in the nursery will help ensure your peace of mind, and your baby's safety. When placing your baby crib or infant bed in the nursery, avoid placing the crib too close to the window. Whilst it may seem natural to place the crib by the window for sunlight and fresh air, curtains, drapes, and blinds can present a hazard to your child, and cords, a greater risk of strangulation. Fresh air from the window can easily make the sleeping environment too cold, and direct drafts increase your baby's susceptibility to flu's, cold, and infection. Pictures, coffee mugs, tea cups, or other objects that may fall into the crib should always be avoided and removed. A good rule of thum is never take your coffee, tea, or snacks into the nursery. Your child´s reach is improving every day. Make sure no dangerous objects are reachable from the crib to help keep your baby safe from harm. Baby cribs come in all shapes and sizesSleeping, or resting in the crib or infant bed is where your baby will spend the majority of their time in the nursery. Here are some useful tips to help ensure your child's safety. Parents often buy used, or second hand cribs, handed-down from family members. Over the years safety standards, construction requirements, material use and restrictions, have all improved to help ensure that every infant bed meets a minimum safety requirement. Today's safety requirements, which were either non-existent or were much lower previously, are placed upon manufacturers to help protect babies and small children who may otherwise be in danger or at risk from low construction detail, faulty, or damaged parts. When considering whether to place your baby in a second-hand crib, or thinking of purchasing a new one. Follow these simple steps, to help you decide whether your baby crib is safe for your child.
Create the optimal sleep environment for your babyCreating the right environment, mood, and space is essential to promoting normal and healthy sleeping behaviour in your infant. Many parents use mobiles, bright, stimulating colours in the nursery, or rotating coloured lights that stencil and light the walls to lullaby tunes and nursery rhymes. But as distractions are such novelties condusive to sleep? And more importantly do such novelties help create an optimal sleeping environment for your infant? To create the ideal sleeping enviroment for your baby, make sure that your crib conforms to all current safety standard guidelines. Ensure that you have a good, firm mattress. Try to stay to softer pastel colours schemes such as blues, greens, pinks and yellows which are considered by most to be more restful. Make sure the bedding and the entire room is clean and fresh. In your baby's first year, a quilt or comforter should only be used for decoration. Specially made quilt clips are available to hang your baby quilt on the nursery wall for added decoration. Your baby's crib should be unobstructed by blankets, pillows or sheets, allowing their face to be clear at all times, removing any danger of breathing obstruction. Keep stuffed animals and other toys out of your infants bed until your baby is older. Make the room a pleasant one. If you use a scent, like lavender, keep it light. Nothing overpowering. Consider using nursery murals to decorate and add life to your nursery wallls that provide baby with restful images to look at as eyes begin to close and baby falls soundly to sleep. Keep your nursery as dust-free as possible to avoid sneezing and stuffy noses as well as any allergies that your baby may have. Your nursery should feel like a safe and cozy place that your baby associates with restfulness, security, warm, and comfort. To be certain that your child is sleeping comfortably when you leave the room, purchasing a baby monitor will enable you to hear your baby throughout the night. Many modern baby monitors also provide a video link allowing you to not only hear your baby but see your baby as they sleep. |
